Each season from now on I hear-by solemnly promise to gather and share a little of my inspiration for each new collection I design. I would like to give you a brief insight into each design and simply share in the fun we have here in our design work room!
Oh Summer 11 how we are longing for it to begin!
My collection for this Summer is entitled "The Garden Party" and is made up of four design stories: Tulip, Rosebud, Peony and Ribbon Daisy. In addition to these stories are many more flowers that will be available as dramatic 3D brooches.
I am going to introduce some of these new designs to you every 10 days or so leading up to the launch of my Summer range in early November.
Rosebud - Summer 11
Roses are so classically beautiful they have featured in many of my collections over the last few seasons and will continue to do so I'm sure! Vintage dresses and fabrics are a huge inspiration to me as are vintage design houses such as Lanvin and costume collections such as the Kyoto Costume Institute. I want to keep the art of handmade fashion alive and I think a handmade silk rose is the ultimate accessory to any outfit. This Summer I wanted to experiment using 100% parachute silk to hand-make each rose. This weave of silk is so wonderfully soft and fine I think it makes a very romantic and dreamy looking rose. The leaves on each rose are made from 100% silk taffeta and the base fabric for my bags and purses in this collection is 100% cotton linen. The linen and parachute silk work well together as contrasting textures. I had fun taking the photos of these roses as inspiration for my collection and I took some from my garden but also from roses peeking over fences in my historic hometown of Arrowtown.
The Rosebud collection will be available in purses, brooches, hair ties, compact mirrors, scarves, hand bags, evening bags, glasses cases, necklaces, key rings, laptop bags, make-up bags, clutch purses, jewellery pouches and jewellery rolls.
Tulip - Summer 11
Inspired by William Morris textiles, vintage ceramics and tulips from my humble flower garden, my Tulip design is the most graphic and contemporary of my Summer 11 designs. My Tulip design is hand embroidered onto a base of 100% silk taffeta and has tiny hand beaded detail in the centre of each flower.I have used a vivid colour palette of deep sun-kissed orange, fiery bright red, magenta, sky blue and black.
My Tulip design will be available in a selection of fashion accessories including handbags, purses, wallets, brooches, cuffs, glasses cases, multi media pouches, key rings, laptop bags, compact mirrors, make-up purses, jewellery pouches and a silk scarf.
I hope this is a good introduction and taste of my Summer collections to come. I'd love to hear your thoughts and if you would like to see more posts of my inspiration and photos of new designs.
